Platform Edge Protection Ltd offer safety barrier systems for railway station platforms across the UK and Europe. We aim to considerably improve railway safety for the workforce reducing the potential for injuries on and off the platform
Britain now has one of the safest railways in Europe, for passengers and workers. With achievements like that it’s easy to become complacent, so our team at PEP decided to improve the UK’s health and safety record even further.
The rate of safety improvement has slowed over the past few years. With growth in passenger numbers expected to continue, the UK’s railway infrastructure will need to implement and deliver major investment programmes in railway safety to keep up with this growth, whilst at the same time managing the safety of the railway’s workforce by reducing the risk of serious injuries and fatalities.
With these challenges lying ahead, we decided to develop a safety barrier that reduces and almost eliminates the plant/person interface and fall prevention risk when carrying out maintenance or major refurbishment works on railway station platforms. A plant/person interface is still recognised as one of the key fatal risks within the railway and needs to be addressed to improve railway safety across the UK & Europe.
Based on these principles we developed the Platform Edge Protection safety barrier providing sufficient strength to resist the lateral force of someone falling against it and on to the tracks or into the path of road rail vehicles passing through a worksite, thus preventing serious injury and even death.
